This 3-day desert tour embarks from Marrakech, venturing through the majestic High Atlas Mountains, exploring ancient kasbahs, and culminating in an immersive Sahara Desert experience at Erg Chebbi. The journey blends cultural encounters, breathtaking natural landscapes, and unique Moroccan hospitality, before returning to Marrakech via a different picturesque route.
Your 3 days desert tour from Marrakech begins with an early morning departure from Marrakech. We’ll cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, offering panoramic views of the winding roads and traditional Berber villages clinging to the mountainsides.
We’ll visit the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a fortified village recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site and a popular filming location for many Hollywood movies. After exploring this ancient kasbah, we’ll continue to Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Gateway to the Sahara” and the “Hollywood of Africa.” We’ll then drive through the picturesque “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs” to reach the Dades Valley, where you’ll spend the night in a charming riad or hotel.
After a delicious breakfast, we’ll depart from the Dades Valley and head towards the spectacular Todra Gorges, a magnificent canyon with towering, 300-meter-high rock walls. Enjoy a walk through the gorges, marveling at the sheer scale of this natural wonder.
Our journey continues to the Sahara Desert, passing through various Berber villages. Upon arrival in Merzouga, you’ll be greeted with traditional Moroccan tea before embarking on an unforgettable camel trek into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes.
The camel ride will take you to your desert camp, where you’ll witness a mesmerizing sunset over the golden sands. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, listen to Berber music around a campfire, and spend the night in a private tent under a blanket of stars.
An early start offers the magnificent sight of a desert sunrise over the dunes. After a fulfilling breakfast, you will have the option to return to Merzouga village either by camel or a comfortable 4×4.
Our return trip to Marrakech will take a different, equally picturesque route. We will travel alongside the Draa River, Morocco’s longest river, meandering through its verdant valley filled with palm groves. Stops will be made for photo opportunities at your convenience, and lunch will be enjoyed in Ouarzazate before crossing the High Atlas Mountains one final time. Your memorable 3-day desert tour concludes in the evening with a drop-off at your accommodation in Marrakech.

The best time to visit Morocco generally depends on the region you plan to explore. For most of the country, spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October) offer pleasant temperatures, making it ideal for sightseeing in cities like Marrakech and Fes, as well as hiking in the Atlas Mountains. Summer (June to August) can be extremely hot, especially in the desert and inland cities, while winter (November to March) can be cool, with snow in the mountains and occasional rain.
The official currency of Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). You cannot legally import or export Dirhams, so you’ll need to exchange money upon arrival. ATMs are widely available in cities and larger towns, and credit cards are accepted in many hotels, restaurants, and shops, though cash is preferred for smaller purchases and in souks (markets). It’s a good idea to carry small denominations of Dirhams for tips and street vendors.
Morocco is a predominantly Muslim country, and it’s respectful to dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites. For women, this typically means covering shoulders and knees, and avoiding overly revealing clothing. Loose-fitting trousers, long skirts, and tops with sleeves are good choices. Men should also opt for modest attire. In more touristy areas and hotels, dress codes can be more relaxed, but it’s always better to err on the side of caution.
It is generally not recommended to drink tap water in Morocco. While many locals drink it, visitors may be more susceptible to stomach upsets due to different bacteria. Bottled water is widely available and inexpensive, and it’s best to use it for drinking, brushing teeth, and even rinsing fruit.
While many Moroccans involved in tourism speak English, knowing a few basic phrases in Moroccan Arabic (Darija) or French can greatly enhance your experience:
