This 4-day desert tour commences in Marrakech, traversing the High Atlas Mountains to explore ancient kasbahs and the Dades Valley, before reaching the Sahara Desert for an immersive experience. The journey continues through historical towns and the Draa Valley on Day 3, culminating in an overnight stay in Ouarzazate, and finally returning to Marrakech on Day 4. It offers a comprehensive exploration of southern Morocco’s diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass into the desert region. First, we’ll visit the legendary, UNESCO-world heritage Ait Ben Haddou kasbah. Afterwards, we explore the cinema city of Ouarzazate. Finally, the journey continues through a landscape dotted with ancient kasbahs to our first night’s accommodation in the beautiful Dades Valley.
After a delicious breakfast, we’ll depart from the Dades Valley towards the spectacular Todra Gorges. There, you can enjoy a walk through this magnificent canyon, marveling at its 300-meter-high rock walls.
An Evening in the Sahara
Next, our journey continues to the Sahara Desert. Upon arrival in Merzouga, you’ll be greeted with traditional Moroccan tea before embarking on an unforgettable camel trek into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. This ride is timed to witness a mesmerizing sunset. Subsequently, you’ll enjoy a traditional dinner and Berber music around a campfire before spending the night in a private tent under the stars.
Optional Sunrise and Desert Departure
For those who choose, an optional early start offers the magical spectacle of a desert sunrise. After breakfast at the camp, we bid farewell to the Sahara and begin a new route towards Ouarzazate.
A Journey Through Pre-Saharan Landscapes
Our path leads us through Rissani, an ancient and historically significant town. The journey then continues through traditional Berber villages like Alnif and Nkob, which act as gateways to unique pre-Saharan landscapes. Finally, we proceed alongside the legendary Draa Valley, a vibrant ribbon of green with millions of palm trees. We arrive in Ouarzazate in the afternoon, where you will check into your hotel for the night.
After a final breakfast, we commence the return journey to Marrakech. Our route once again takes us over the majestic High Atlas Mountains, offering a fresh perspective on their beauty.
This scenic drive provides the perfect opportunity to reflect on the incredible contrasts of your journey. Ultimately, we anticipate arriving back in Marrakech in the late afternoon, where your tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel or the airport.

The best time to visit Morocco generally depends on the region you plan to explore. For most of the country, spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October) offer pleasant temperatures, making it ideal for sightseeing in cities like Marrakech and Fes, as well as hiking in the Atlas Mountains. Summer (June to August) can be extremely hot, especially in the desert and inland cities, while winter (November to March) can be cool, with snow in the mountains and occasional rain.
The official currency of Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). You cannot legally import or export Dirhams, so you’ll need to exchange money upon arrival. ATMs are widely available in cities and larger towns, and credit cards are accepted in many hotels, restaurants, and shops, though cash is preferred for smaller purchases and in souks (markets). It’s a good idea to carry small denominations of Dirhams for tips and street vendors.
Morocco is a predominantly Muslim country, and it’s respectful to dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites. For women, this typically means covering shoulders and knees, and avoiding overly revealing clothing. Loose-fitting trousers, long skirts, and tops with sleeves are good choices. Men should also opt for modest attire. In more touristy areas and hotels, dress codes can be more relaxed, but it’s always better to err on the side of caution.
It is generally not recommended to drink tap water in Morocco. While many locals drink it, visitors may be more susceptible to stomach upsets due to different bacteria. Bottled water is widely available and inexpensive, and it’s best to use it for drinking, brushing teeth, and even rinsing fruit.
While many Moroccans involved in tourism speak English, knowing a few basic phrases in Moroccan Arabic (Darija) or French can greatly enhance your experience:
